Engage The Word – January 20, 2015

1. Before you read, quiet your heart for one minute of silence

2. Read the following Scripture:

1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. 2 A king’s wrath is like the roar of a lion; he who angers him forfeits his life. 3 It is to a man’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel. 4 A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing. 5 The purposes of a man’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out. 6 Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find? 7The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him. 8 When a king sits on his throne to judge, he winnows out all evil with his eyes. 9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”? 10 Differing weights and differing measures– the LORD detests them both. 11 Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right. Proverbs 20:1-11

3.  Pause for another minute and let God speak to you in your silence

What is He saying to you?
4.  Read the following Scripture:
16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Galatians 5: 16-26
5.  Pause for one more minute and reflect upon what God is speaking to your heart in this moment. How does this relate to my life? What does God want me to do with this today?
6.  The Gloria
“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  World without end.
Amen.”
